Admissions Information
The faculty and staff of St. Mary Academy are committed to providing a quality Catholic education. Schools in the Diocese of Venice admit students of all races, color, sex, national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the schools.
Students are selected for enrollment based on the following priority:
1. Current students.
2. Siblings of students currently enrolled at the school.
3. Families who are registered and are active parishioners.
4. Children of St. Mary Academy Alumni.
5. Students transferring in from another Catholic School in good standing.
6. Families who are registered and are active parishioners of other neighboring Catholic parishes.
7. All other families
Additional factors considered in the admissions process include the order applications are received, previous academic, disciplinary and service records, and placement exam performance. Applying for financial aid has no bearing on admission decisions. The school reserves the right to accept those students whose needs can be met within our existing educational program. Students accepted to St. Mary Academy are subject to a probationary period to determine compatibility with the school.
Age Requirements:
Students entering Kindergarten must be five years of age by September 1st and must be fully potty trained.
Students entering 1st grade must be six years of age by September 1st, have successfully completed Kindergarten, and meet the reading readiness requirements of the school.
Initial Visit
Please call or complete our online Inquiry Form to schedule a tour of our campus. This visit gives parents/guardian a chance to see the one-of-a-kind atmosphere of our school, and to see our classes in action. The tour will include the entire campus: chapel, lunch room, community area, classrooms, STREAM Lab, occupational and physical therapy rooms, speech therapy room, and outdoor playgrounds. After your tour, our Admissions Director, Mrs. Julie Dapper, will be happy to answer and questions that you have. If possible, please bring your child's IEP or 504 plan, as well as any current testing data and current report card.
Application for Admission
After you have toured the school and have met with our principal, you may submit an application on behalf of your child. We request that all data is on file at this point, ie: IEP, report cards, and testing data. You may be invited to have your child 'shadow' a classroom. After your child has 'shadowed' and has been assessed by our resource teacher, he/she may be admitted to our program. In order to 'shadow', you must complete the Application for Admission, as well as submit the non-refundable $50 application fee.
Student Shadow
We invite your child to 'shadow' a class. This allows your child to interact and make friends with our students, and to understand how our school functions. Your child will also meet with our resource teacher for placement testing, which will assist us to better understand his or her needs. Depending on grade level, students may shadow for a half day or full day. If your student is 'shadowing' for a full day, he or she is also invited to eat lunch with our students. Students are encouraged to wear navy pants for elementary school or khaki pants for middle school, and a solid color polo shirt on their shadow day. Many of our student shadows are excited to begin school with their new friends. Our principal makes every effort to meet with the parents at the conclusion of the tour.
Registration
After your child's 'shadow' day, you will talk with our Admissions Director to discuss enrollment or other education options you may have. Due to the unique nature of our program, we are only able to accept students whom we are equipped to provide academic support.
Please complete our brief online Inquiry Form and we'll get back to you as soon as possible to set-up a tour of our campus. You are a priority.
